Children’s Reading Tree
Built for the Liliha Public Library Children’s Section
Creating a Special Place for Keiki
Working with the Liliha Libraryʻs childrenʻs librarian, Honolulu Kūpuna Shed members designed and built a unique reading tree and bench–a joyful place where keiki can gather, explore books, and enjoy reading.
The finished project features an 8-foot tree with broad leaves surrounded by a 4-foot circular bench, with built-in bookshelves and inlaid Hawaiian birds. It was installed at the library on December 31, 2024.

A Gift to the Community
“We are thrilled to have this special piece of furniture in our library…Your thoughtful contribution provides not only a captivating place for young readers to sit, but also serves as a testament to the creativity and skill of the talented members of the Kūpuna Shed. The bench will undoubtedly enhance the library experience for children and families who visit, offering a cozy space to enjoy books and foster a love of reading.”
